Grunpy because of my injured hip.

Got the fiddle out after a long hiatus in the closet. Playeed a bit but I am soo rusty.

Tuned about, and discovered a few new keys that scream Klezmer - moody, wintery, the blues of a wandering people caught in the snow.

I am keen for spring. Keen for my hip (ITB? Bursitis?) to heal up. I want to bike around, run about.

Running out of time. Schol continues to be interesting. Studying spectral classes of stars lately. If you see coal-black patches of the night sky, where no stars live, its probably a star nursery. Who knows what kids may see peeking out through the blackness in a couple thousand years.

Tired. But it hurts more to lay down than to sit down. This is going to make resing difficult.

Well, for sufficiently large values of "couple thousand" (like 10-50 million, assuming the nebular theory of star formation is correct), no?

BTW, you might want to friend [livejournal.com profile] dancer_flight, he sails with me, and got a good chunk of the way through an astronomy PhD before he got sick of trying to get FORTRAN to use a C library for his research (as well as some administrative and political problems in his department), and decided to just seek some employment instead.

I don't think he's on LJ, but Stefan Mochnacki is also a (past liveaboard) sailor, and astrophysicist. If you're in Toronto in the right part of the Summer, and willing to crew for me at an Alberg 30 regatta, I could very easily introduce you.

I was thinking more along the lines of stars being revealed in the areas, once formed - rather than the stars actually forming before our eyes. It takes a long time for the formation, but less so for the shock waves after to clear the debris, and even less if that process is already underway - but true, it probably is a good bit more than a couple thousand.
