So, in a fit of typical my employer seems to have put me in a position where I am working seven days a week until sometime in October.
This weekend - Off.
Next week - Working on customer document project with extreme deadlines and no direction.
Next Weekend - Working in Tornoto for customer
Week after that - more document from hell.
Next 3-4 weekends after that - Toronto working over the weekend for customer with custom needs.
What do ya wanna bet that if they have me there for the weekend, they will undoubtably find work for me on the weekdays too. They have a knack for that.
So in government jobs - is the closing date the last day to apply, or the daty they start actually digesting the resumes, or both?

After the applications have been filtered the package gets shipped off the the HR department of the ministry that requested it for a manual review and further culling (2-4 weeks). The package then gets sent to the actual department that requested the competition. At this time they contact people for testing (2-4 Weeks). Once the testing is completed (2-4 weeks) people are contacted for interviews (2-4 Weeks) Once the interviews are completed and the wining candidate is chosen, HR is contacted for their concurrence (2-4 Weeks)
From start to finish the process can take upwards of six months. I OFTEN would be contacted for jobs that I had loooooong since forgotten about.

First approach: I'm terribly sorry, but I don't want to work consecutive weekends.
Second approach: Ok, I don't think you quite got the gist of what I just said. This working thing is supposed to support the living thing; you're not actually leaving me any of the living thing which motivates my being here at all. I'd really like to see some regular time off other than evenings.
Third approach: Your lack of sympathy for some basic desires of another human being is distressing. I think that there's a facet of human life being completely overlooked here and plan to seek some guidance in this matter.
Day after third approach: I met with my pastor (feel free to use a ULC-ordained friend) and was reminded that my religion forbids working on Sunday. (S)he also pointed me at some interesting local statutes that forbid workplace discrimination on the basis of religion. I trust that I'll have Sunday off from now on.
The expect to work Saturdays until you find a new job.
