Just back from my compsci exam for COMP200.

One question really gets my goat - I may have gotten it wrong, or not depending on when the exam was created - it basically asked me to compare the storage capacities of CD-CROM, Memory, floppy disks, and some other media. Today, memory beats CD-ROMs hands down - I have 1G in my machine, and my next one will likely have 3. But if the question was penned more than a couple years ago, the answer is likely to favor CDROMs, so that was my answer. I could have answered memory - but then I might have to go and fight to justify my answer today - which is probably more of a pain than guessing the vintage of the exam. On the other hand, the exam knew abou burnable CDs, but made no mention of DVDs, which puts it on the cusp of systems with Gigs of memory - at least in my line of work, anyway.

Even a couple years ago, 1G home machines were quite common. Hm... and when they say Memory, do they mean RAM or Flash? 2Gb Flash devices are pretty common nowadays.

What a bizarre question. The relative storage capacities of a specific set of media doesn't have anything to do with computer science, in my opinion. It's like having a question comparing pens versus pencils on the exam for a creative writing class.

was the exam to be marked by a human or a computer? Humans can change their answer-set, but the humans running computers would be too lazy...
